Background
Alreco is MHM Metals wholly-owned subsidiary with operations in Australia and the United States. The business recycles salt slag and black dross, by-products from the secondary aluminium industry (re-melting of recycled aluminium). These products have traditionally been landfilled by the aluminium industry, however environmental concerns and a changing legislative landscape has made this an increasingly difficult disposal method. MHM processes the salt slag and black dross into aluminium, salt and potash flux and aluminium oxide - all valuable commodities that can be re-used. The process is 'closed-loop', with nothing being diverted to landfill, and is cost competitive to the cost of landfilling.
MHM is confident that salt slag recycling will become the global standard for best practices for salt slag management.
